I was having issues myself with sound quality with these speakers until I went to Bose.com and read the user guide. These speakers are meant to produce sound both directly and reflectively. If you have all of the elements pointing forward with no surfaces to bounce off of the experience is not satisfying. You need to tuck the sub away in a corner (to reflect off the walls) and the smaller speakers I find work great with one element pointing directly and the other pointing at a wall (each speaker has 2 elements). The sound with the reflection is much richer and satisfying than when everything’s pointed directly at you.

Bose seem to elicit a passsionate response whenever their name is mentioned, and I will try to elaborate on my experiences and let the reader decide if these speakers are right for them.

I currently own a set of Bose Acoustimass speakers that I purchased from a friend. The speakers were in excellent shape and I felt lucky to be able to afford Bose a few years ago on my meager salary at the time.

The speakers are definitely room *friendly*, they blend in easily as their size is unobtrusive. That said, after investigating speakers recently for a planned theater upgrade, I now feel that they are lacking.

When I first got my speakers I compared them to a pair I had purchased back when I was in high-school. I didn’t know anything about those speakers at the time but was happy with their sound as well(AR Holographic M1′s). The results of the comparison left me thinking my ears were deceiving me “my old speakers sound better?” Anyway, I put those…

Love it or Leave it…, February 14, 2011

Bose Acoustimass speaker systems are a strange animal. You either love them or hate them.

It’s a funny thing, This guy was at my house and heard my Quad ESL speakers (electrostatic) (,000) with about ,000 worth of electronics and made the comment that they sounded almost as good as his Bose.

So there you go, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Myself, I’m not too keen on Bose and I could go on a tirade about what I don’t like about them, but in the end, it’s what you think. If they make you happy, then by God, you’ve made the right choice.

Bose are very colored speakers, bright highs and warm syrupy bass. This is a sound that many people like. The fact that they don’t take up much room fits into many lifestyles.

If you like accuracy and want to get closer to real, then try something else.

For me, Bose has a pleasant sound that is nice to listen to at low volume when I just want background…

Let me start out by saying that all my previous systems were Hbid all in one Sony crap factories. I’m actually a TV and radio engineer, but I’ve never been willing to spend the money on my own consumer grade audio equipment….now I’m glad I did. This system is incredible. I got it with the Yamaha 667 receiver, so basically the receiver was free; too good to pass up.

Pros:

Amazing sound…it’s like I’m in a movie theater

Quality design; speakers are well built and heavy and the shine on them is great. sub looks like a piece of art

Great mounts and 16 gauge cable included.

Packaging was immaculate; reminded me of Apple products

Professional gold connectors on rear of speaker; high quality

powered sub with adjustable levels

Cons:

Cable for surround is a little short (typical length for surround cable included with most systems)

Speaker set is really expensive if you don’t get the deal with a receiver…

Mind blowing, Awesome, Amazing, Fantastic….., March 24, 2011

Let me tell you right away that this Harman Kardon speaker package has high quality written all over it. Right from the excellent packaging to the individual speaker/sub-woofer construction and overall appearance, everything is immaculate. And yes the sound quality is indeed mind blowing as stated by the other reviewers.

As usual I got this packaged with the feature rich Yamaha RX-V667 as part of the current Amazon promotion. The Yamaha receiver has so many features that I am yet to explore most of them and will come up with a separate review shortly. But my initial impression is very good and it does everything perfectly that I expected from it. So far I have generally used only Sony HTIBs as home theater option. To be frank I am no audiophile and was pretty happy with them. Infact one month back only I purchased the Sony HT-SS370 from Costco to replace a 5 year old Sony HTIB . Simply amazing, March 24, 2011

I had been going back and forth with purchasing these speakers, but when I saw it was paired with a Yamaha Amp, I couldn’t say no. I essentially got the amp for free. After anticipating its arrival, and checking the tracking details every hour it had finally arrived.

The speakers were sealed in a very protective packaging. Wrapped in foam and cloth, the speakers had a certain sparkle to them. the sub-woofer also came in its own separate box.

Setting these bad boys up was a breeze. The speaker wires were perfect length, maybe a bit long, but I have a smaller living room.

Now the sound. I hooked these up to my new Yamaha amp (that i got for free!), and these guys shock my entire apartment. I took the advice to test these with Dark Knight, and I was simply amazed.

Overall, these speakers paired with the Yamaha 667 Amp are an amazing deal. I was skeptical spending 0 on a sound system, but it was the best 0 I have spent

Pricey, but worth it, June 5, 2010

While I admit this system is pricey, and you are over-paying for the speakers it is still IMHO worth it. The interface is perfect and the bose system becomes your media center. One remote on radio frequency (that works through walls) controls my TV, DVR, BluRay, Ipod (on built in dock station) … the unify system that makes set-up idiot proof and is a breeze to calibrate to the room. Plus the system is sleek and aesthetic. And the sound is phenomenal. Pricey, but worth it. You get what you pay for … I am very happy with the purchase.

Bose V25 system: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, February 5, 2011

I just bought the V25 system last week. Here’s a rather long review with points to consider…

The Good:

Setup is of the system is ridiculously simple – with guided instructions that show up on your TV and verify that you have everything connected correctly. Bose also includes a setup system called AdaptIQ that uses 2 microphones in place of speakers on a set of headphones (note: see “Bad” below). You wear them and sit in 5 different locations around your room while the system plays a series of test tones from each of the system speakers and the Acoutimass subwoofer. Then the system analyzes the readings and automatically sets up the system to match your particular room acoustics. It’s smart enough to know if you haven’t moved position between test tones, displaying on the screen “It doesn’t appear as though you have moved since the last test, please move to another position” (or a message to that effect).

Received this home theater system 3 days ago and hooked it up to my new Panasonic Viera TC-P60s30 plasma TV (TV not 3D) and it was amazing! The calibration microphone that came in the box was simple to use and went very quickly. I chose this system after doing hours of research utilizing many means including the leading reporting magazine via their website. So, when it came time to find the best price I found it on Amazon.

However, it was somewhat frustrating because most of the people that bought the same model – Samsung Home Theater System (HT-D5500) on Amazon bought the system that did not specify that a Blue-Ray player was included, only that a DVD player was included. I could not find the words *Blue-Ray player* anywhere listed in the description or product detail. That is why I opted to purchase this one listing it with Blue-Ray player and sold through Amazon and shipped via third party vendor that specified they had plenty of these systems in stock. I have not written product reviews on Amazon before but I find them to be extremely helpful and want to give some payback. In particular, I found the home theater system and home theater speaker reviews to be very useful.

The Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 channel home theater speaker system is phenomenal and an outstanding value. I had originally been looking for a home theater in a box system to mate to a newly acquired 37″ LG LCD HDTV. The search was partly precipitated by the demise of the older generation DVD player we owned coupled to a failing 10 year old Onkyo surround-sound system. As I poked around on-line reviews and shopped Circuit City and Best Buy it became clear I could get more value and flexibility buying a receiver, an upscalable DVD player (improved picture with regular DVDs on HDTV) and a new speaker system than with home theater in a box.

I do consider myself to be picky when it comes to electronics. And I am absolutely floored that speakers this good can be had for a price this low. If you are reading this review, you are probably asking yourself the same question I was this time last week. That being: Are these speakers too good to be true?

During my buying process, I read about these Polks and consequently made a trip to a dumpy Circuit City with a poorly set-up sound room. Before the speakers were played, I picked up one of the sats. and was extremely impressed with its build quality… nice materials, very attractive… and the speakers have a solidness/weight to them that let you know these are not those cheap pressed-wood speakers you’ll find in most HTIB systems. Secondly, I was impressed with the sound even though the rears weren’t hooked-up and the sub-woofer was poorly placed.

Polk RM6750 5.1 Speaker System

Before reviewing – “thanks” to everyone who did likewise. I recently upgraded a few elements and placed a lot of emphasis upon user reviews to guide decisions between rival components.

As for the review, first a description of my home theater and audio system: Dell WD4200 1080i HD Monitor, Yamaha RX-V661 A/V receiver, Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player, Polk RM6750 system as the “A” speaker set, Klipsch Forte’s as the “B” speaker pair. The listening/viewing environment is a carpeted, 12 x 14 room opening on one narrow side with an archway into a larger room, with the TV, front speakers, and subwoofer placed on a long wall. I don’t own one of these Bose systems, but as a sound engineer of 30 years plus, I have to defend Bose, when I see some of the terrible reviews they sometimes get. It seems that people either love ‘em or hate ‘em… After hearing these at a friend’s house, (a guy who has good ear’s, and can set up a system), I was very impressed. He does “concert night” at his home, and we listen to great music video concerts, (mostly jazz rock), such as Steely Dan,Sting,Lee Ritenour, Jeff Beck,etc…These videos have great sound, and they sound wonderful on his system! They also sound wonderful on my own huge JBL system, but in some ways, I actually like his better! My system will go louder,(and we like full scale concert volume),but his is loud enough to hurt,in his moderately sized 15×15 living room, and that’s with very clean, full, sound…One reviewer mentioned that his bass module produced “farting” sounds. I never heard anything like that on my friend’s system, and we like concert level bass…

Excellent value and quality, January 14, 2005

I had a passive subwoofer previously on a patched together system. I was surprised how dramatic an improvement an actively powered subwoofer (at least one this big) can make. When the Rohan horses go thundering through in Lord of the Rings, I couldn’t believe the difference. The satellites provide really crisp sound and are quite unobtrusive (makes the wife happy). I think you have to be more careful about placing the speakers, though, to make a seamless sound field since they are so small.

Hook up was the easiest I’ve ever had, with all speaker cables factory labeled. One big cord runs to the amp outputs from the bass module, and simple plugs run from the bass module to your speakers.

One caution- you’ll need Bose wall brackets to hang these from your walls since the back of the satellites are threaded for a screw. I used to hang my previous speakers from heavy-duty picture hangers!

I purchased the Acoustimass 6 (Amazon) in November to replace a Panasonic SC-PT960 home theater system. The Panasonic provided adequate sound but was quite strident sounding. To upgrade my system, I bought the Bose Acoustimass 6 with speaker stands, an Onkyo TX-SR508 (Amazon) receiver (Defective, replacement took 2 days, no charge) and a Samsung BD-C5500 (Amazon) blu-ray disc player which included the apps for TV@Internet (the Pandora radio and Netflix apps are great). Set-up was straight-forward and positive with the color-coded wiring. After adjusting the receiver and fine-tuning the Acoustimass module (bass setting), I was very pleased with the total sound, particularly the ability of the small speakers to create the feeling of “presence”, especially individual voices and musical instruments. The livingroom in our new home just doesn’t have a place for free-standing speakers due to the floorplan (very open to the rest of the house, with a fireplace in the front corner). This ruled out using my existing (high-end) theater speakers (large towers).

I went to the local big-box store, and the only set of in-wall speakers they had that I thought were worth buying were a set of Klipsch that came in at 0 per set. I almost went for them, but after measuring I found they were about 2″ too wide for where I needed to install one of them. The 0 Infinity set sounded horrible. They didn’t sell Polk Audio or Boston Acoustic, which was actually what I wanted to look at.

Excellent Speakers!!, December 26, 2007

I purchased a pair of these in-walls for a pool table/game room area I am building in the basement. My receiver is an Onkyo 805 7.1 home theater system and these will serve as stereo/audio part for only that room. I have never owned Polks or in wall speakers for that matter and listened to them at the big box store before purchasing these through Amazon. I was really impressed at the audio quality. I also didn’t want floor standing speakers, but didn’t want to sacrifice audio quality either so these speakers filled the bill.

No back boxes are necessary, the speaker is designed as an “infinite

baffle” type and only requires that the front and rear moving sound wave

are isolated from each other. Polk recommends to maximize the sound quality, you place a modest amount of a sound absorbing material, such as Polyfil (a synthetic cotton-like material found at craft/fabric stores) inside the cavity before installing the speakers. Supposedly, this will absorb…

Super easy to put in and fantastic sound. Followed everyone’s advice and stuffed the cavity with insulation….taped the wall with Scotch blue painters tape..and scored the paper of the drywall with a razor before cutting with a small drywall saw!

I will first admit – I’m not an expert audiophile – but like anyone, I love good, rich sound. Everyone has had speakers you can’t turn up too loud or else you get too much rattle, hum or both – not the case with these babies. Only after we got this speaker system did we realize we needed a receiver – so it took a while before that acquisition. We tried to bypass this requirement – but you simply cannot get anything other than audio from the subwoofer without a surround sound receiver.

The subwoofer is big… as in big enough for an adult man to sit on comfortably in respect to width, depth and height… but the black cabinet it’s in is very unobtrusive and is not a distraction in our living room at all.

The included cables are very lengthy to accommodate a giant room. We were able to conceal most of the wires via the moulding around the ceiling – the speakers look nice, and sound AWESOME.

Uncolored, full-range, very deep bass, good value, March 26, 2008

From the mid-bass up these are very neutral, uncolored natural sounding speakers. They don’t call attention to themselves and allow full enjoyment of the source material. Really good source material sounds fantastic, mediocre material sounds mediocre. No honks, shrieks, buzzes, phony “presence” or harshness. I have heard speakers with better definition that create a better sense of “being there”, but always for several times more money.

The bass is something else – in a positive way. Listening to an electric bass or symphony orchestra, the fundamentals are just solid all the way down. The subsonics are amazing for a 10″ woofer. The whole room shakes and the sound pressure can be felt in the chest, gut and butt. Adds realism to action/adventure movies and give the kids a thrill.

Good value, great sound, not ready to use straight out of the box, November 17, 2011

I’ve had this system for a few months now and I can comfortably say the sound is awesome for at-home surrond sound. It transmits all the notes beautifully without the jarring effect you get from some other systems when one range dominates the sound. For the list price, this is is a good deal

Only thing to note is that this is not ready to use straight out of the box. I did not realise it initially, but it requires an additional receiver to be able to connect the TV or other home stereo devices. The receivers are not cheap, so expect to pay another 0 to complete the surround sound system installation. I still think the sound quality is worth the additional expense though

I Love This 3-D Sound Bar Speaker System, August 29, 2011

I could hardly hear my new 42″ wide screen TV, until I bought this Coby 3-D Sound Bar. It fits on the shelf, right in front of the TV, “perfectly”, and really gives a wonderful sound to TV viewing. I Love It!
